• Who We Are

“Slava!” is a regular fundraising event in North London for the charity: withUkraine.org.

Mark Coverdale & Dan March have now programmed, organised and hosted six “Slava!” events since Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

“Slava!” has already featured more than 40 different poets, musicians and comedians who have all given their time to help raise over £1,500 for withUkraine.org.

The next was is on 10 September 2023 at the Lamb in Islington, and featured live poetry, music and entertainment, including Ukrainian food and a raffle to fundraise money for Ukraine.

  • Our Aims

We would love “Slava!” to become not only a recurring fundraising evening, but also a showcase of Ukrainian poetry, prose and culture.

Poets have performed Ukrainian poetry ranging from the classical works of Taras Shevchenko & Ivan Franko, to contemporary writers, such as Serhiy Zhadan, Lina Kostenko, Olesya Khromeychuk and Iya Kiva. And we have also been fortunate to have a number of Ukrainian refugees attend and read their favourite poems.

These have been hugely powerful evenings and audience members have spoken of the impact of hearing Ukrainian poetry and music, and how the evenings have created solidarity, shared humanity and greater awareness of what binds us together in times of conflict.

  • The Future

Our goals are to provide a platform for as many Ukrainian voices as we can, for the events to help familiarise the British audience with Ukrainian culture, and its broader context within Central and Eastern Europe, and ultimately, for these events to become a local hub and safe space for the Ukrainian community & anyone affected by war.
